Episode 134 : Apocalypse
Thinking about the end of the world will teach you a lot about yourself.
Links mentioned:
- Idiocracy, one of our favorites.
(By the way, don’t mixup two movies, it’s very confusing for the person you’re talking to)
- Gwen writes more about death and dying here.

Awwwwwwww you guys are leaving?! Fuck! Well as long as one of you starts another podcast I will be fine… I suppose…
But yeah this episode was already making me feel displaced and strange and then that bomb was dropped *tear, tear*
All in all, a good episode though, very content-hearty.

Hey guys. I was listening to the podcast whilst getting ready in the morning (remind me never to do that again, the apocolypse of mankind didn’t really set me in a good mood for the day) and found myself laughing and crying at the same time. Classic Gwen and Patrick.
(Also, your chat made me think of a great book called Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve - it talks exactly about humans living on after a massive wipe out. They’ve lost most of the technology that we have, they even find a piece of an ipod and call it an ancient antique that could ‘magically’ produce music from nowhere!)
Then I came back from uni, finished the rest of the episode and found out that you’re ending Zen is Stupid?!? It was more devastating than talking about the end of the world! I LOVE you guys, at least you have another podcast coming along.
I’m going to miss Zen is Stupid a lot, it’s probably one of the best podcasts I listen to and I’m always looking forward to the next episode. It’s a shame it’s ending, but I’ve archived every single episode, so if I’m ever feeling a dose of G&P I know where to go!
Good luck with everything guys, I can’t wait for the new podcast!
And as always, I’ll be waiting for next week’s episode.
Peace.

svalbard is a big cluster of islands to the north of norway in the artic sea. it’s not part of Sweden but rather belong to Norway.
The reason they placed the seedbank up there is that they store the seeds frozen and since the place is frozen over for most off the year they can use the natural cold for storage, thus negating much of the energy requirement that they would need on a more southern placement.

Have you considered making the last episode a video podcast? Maybe it’s just me but I like to see people while listening to them talk. Thats why I hate having long conversations on the phone.
Well, the podcast had to end sometime, three years is a pretty good run. I have only been listening for about a year but I’ve heard all the episodes. You make me wish I had some buddhist friends. Good bye and good luck, look forward to next week.

i’m so surprised you have decided to end ZIS! as one of your “few listeners” (ha!) i will seriously miss you… every episode has me laughing, thinking, yelling — sometimes with you, often *at* you, but more importantly i’m always left wanting more. and now what?
…zen is stupid is over is stupid…
…but best wishes on the next chapters you find yourselves writing.

I am definitely getting really un-zen and clinging to the idea of your podcast continuing.
What am I going to have to listen to in the plane now?! Something definitely less good for my brain…or the drone of the engine. BOO.

I’m slightly upset that you’re ending the podcast :/ but I’m not surprised you are, been talking about the end of the podcast for quite some time now lol
Find successors, damn it!

Also… I’m going to point out that every time I start to type the url, when I get to ‘zenis’ I always chuckle

If a podcast ends in the forest and there’s nobody there to hear it, does it make a sound?
Seriously,I love your podcast and I’m sad to see it end. You’ve been a great resource for helping me wrap my head around every day zen. Peace.

Are you sure you’re not just giving up podcasting for Lent? (Though I guess that wouldn’t be very Zen
Seriously, thanks for all the great podcasts!

I’ll echo some of the things already said here, I am going to miss hearing you guys. It has been a real treat getting to listen to you every week. You all were part of the genesis for my interest, and subsequent practice of Zen. Best of luck.

Aww shucks, marraige is stupid. Crush is over, ha ha!
Congrats Patrick.
A few podcasts ago it was mentioned (by Gwen I think) that you guys plateaued early on and the podcasts never really got better or worse. Although I agree with this statement, I enjoyed your lack of ‘professionalism’ or what have-you and didn’t want things to change. I’m sad to see the show end but let us know your new plans.

Hey, sorry to hear the end is near. But usually something will keep happening. This is actually the only podcast I listen to. It’s been great listening to you two, and being part of the discussions in a weird way. It has been fun and I look forward to the next episode. By the way, what happened to Zen Attacks…?

I’ll really miss Zen is Stupid, but I had a feeling it would have to end soon to make room for all the other awesome things each of you is doing. Thanks for so many hours of engaging conversation!

Well, all good things must come to an end and if this was your way of slipping in one more Zen lesson - this time about impermanence - it worked. I know both of you will continue to do things in a visible, on-the-web way so your loyal followers will need not worry about losing track of you. Still, the ZIS forum was unique — it was genuine, un-rehearsed, and always guaranteed to make me think and give me a laugh. For that, I extend my deepest gratitude to you both.
So, not going to say “good bye”, just “so long and see you ’round.”

Ive totally noticed the “zenis” thing too, muahahaha
And seriously, totally - I started listening around episode 30. And zen is stupid has literally become a part of my life. The bits it makes me think on, when i see things that white people would like, when I see people pouring sugar in their disgusting cup of coffee, when I hear about the Epcot center, just random little things remind me of random ZIS’s.
So cool.
