Well… I work third party for a “evil” company. A certain big-box mart… I work at a commercial photo studio who shoots the catalog and flyer photogs for this company. We recently did a photo shoot for their easter catalog and they had acquired a bunny from a pet store to use in that circular. Afterward nobody wanted the bunny and they couldn’t return it. I’m not one for pets (a lot of $$$ and time) but after hearing that no one wanted it, I took the bunny home. A co-worker of mine brought in a small 4′x3′ cage for me and she now has a home here in my apt. although the land-lord is unaware of the new occupant… they’re quiet anyways right?

This very idea has plagued on me recently. I work on a children’s psychiatric unit in a hospital. We do such good work for these kids and their families. There had been a lot of support for us in behavioral health, but recently the hospital has had to trim a bunch of positions. The way they have done this is soooo beyond what I would have thought. Essentially the higher ups call he person down to HR and then break the news that they are no longer working for the hospital. They pack their stuff and off they go. It seems so corporate, cold-hearted. But the problem I can’t reconcile is that these are social workers who provide therapeutic care to the patients of the hospital. They don’t have top secret trade secrets or something. There are rumors more cuts are coming and I know, from a reliable source, that my boss is one of those getting the axe. Everyone seems to know but him. And the higher ups have all but said his position is safe. Flat out lies are pretty unconscionable. I’ve found myself really struggling with the way the hospital execs is conducting business. It runs contrary to the way I want to give care to the children and their families. So I am looking for a new job but more and more I think I should shift to private practice so I don’t have to deal with people telling me I need to do sub-par treatment.
Any thoughts on my obligation to tell my boss he’s gonna be canned next month?

Jeeze, what a story Michael. I’d say definitely look into getting out of there and on your own feet. You often work harder for less money doing your own thing but there is a lot to be said for never having to worry about getting fired ever again. As for any obligation to tell your boss, I’d say you don’t have any. It’s not your duty to keep him informed of that kind of stuff. If you just want to be a good friend that’s a different story however. Thanks for listening, good to hear your perspective on this.

I’ve listened to a couple of these now, and I wonder if you’ve considered doing something with the audio to normalize the loudness before you publish? It’s just that there are parts where you are speaking so quietly, that one needs to crank up the volume, but then you suddenly become very loud or laugh loudly. This is jarring. You should be able to use ‘Dynamic range compression’ of the audio so that its perceived loudness falls in a specific range.

So what game system did you buy at Best Buy?

Good try but it wasn’t Best Buy, and I won’t support the company any more than I have by revealing the system.
